Weekend in Bali? Here's How Much Data You'll Actually Use

Most travelers use 1 to 3 GB of mobile data on a two or three night Bali weekend. You only need 10GB if you hotspot a laptop or stream video away from Wi-Fi.

So why does every checkout page steer you to 10GB? Because running out in Uluwatu, with no way to book a Grab back to Canggu, feels worse than overpaying. That fear is what fixed packages sell.

What is WalletRoam? WalletRoam is a pay-as-you-go travel eSIM by FlexiRoam. You load a dollar balance, install one eSIM, and pay per gigabyte at the local rate in 150+ countries. In Indonesia that's $2.45/GB, and unused credit never expires.

How much data will your Bali weekend use?

Find your weekend below. Estimates assume Friday evening to Sunday night, with Wi-Fi at your villa or hotel.

Your weekend

What you do on mobile data

Est. data

Cost at $2.45/GB

Top up

Villa and pool

Maps, Grab, WhatsApp, light scrolling

0.5 to 1.5 GB

$1.25 to $3.70

$10

Beach clubs and content

Daily Stories, rides between Seminyak and Uluwatu, group chats

2 to 4 GB

$4.90 to $9.80

$10, or $20 if you post a lot

Work-cation

Laptop hotspot, video calls, uploads

5 to 8 GB

$12.25 to $19.60

$20

None of these weekends needs 10GB. Navigation and ride-hailing barely register, at a few MB an hour. Video is what eats data: an hour of Instagram or TikTok uses roughly 100 to 300 MB, and an hour of video calls up to 1 GB.

Why "10GB or 5GB?" is the wrong question

A fixed package makes you guess before you fly. Guess high, and the leftover expires with the plan. Guess low, and you buy a second package on Sunday.

A wallet removes the guess. Load $10, which covers about 4GB in Indonesia. Use 2GB, and $5.10 stays on your balance for Singapore next month or Tokyo next year.

When you do need 10GB

If you'll work full days on a laptop hotspot, stream sport away from Wi-Fi, or stay a week or more, plan on 10GB or more. Load $20 to $50 instead; you still only pay for what you touch.

Set up before you fly

1. Check your phone. Dial *#06#. If a 32-digit EID appears, your phone supports eSIM; it must also be carrier-unlocked.

2. Top up. $10 covers most weekends; $20 if you're working.

3. Install at home. It takes about two minutes on Wi-Fi, via the WalletRoam app or your email link.

4. Switch on at DPS. Turn on your WalletRoam line and data roaming as you land. You'll connect to Telkomsel or XL Axiata, with 4G/LTE across Bali's tourist areas and 5G in major districts.

Your home number stays on your physical SIM, so bank codes still reach you.

Your weekend is three days. Pay for three days of data.

Top up $10, install at home, and land at DPS already online. Whatever you don't use waits for your next trip.

Frequently asked questions

How much data do I need for 3 days in Bali?

Most travelers use 1 to 3 GB. Posting daily Stories pushes that toward 4GB. Only laptop hotspotting or streaming needs 5GB or more.

Is a SIM card from Bali airport cheaper?

The pack can be, but you queue after your flight, register your passport, and lose unused data when you leave. An eSIM wallet is set up before you board, and the balance carries to your next trip.

What if I run out of balance mid-weekend?

Data pauses at $0. Top up in the WalletRoam app or on WhatsApp and you're back online in minutes.
